Founder, Atkins Media, LLC

Jim Atkins is the founder of Atkins Media, LLC and the managing editor of Payroll Tax Calc. A mobile and web app developer by trade, he has shipped 16 mobile apps to the iOS App Store and builds web applications used by everyday consumers to understand their own money.

He started Payroll Tax Calc on a simple conviction: a precise paycheck tool should be free, unlimited, and never gated behind an email address. Every article and study on this site is reviewed by Jim against the primary sources — IRS Publication 15, the annual revenue procedure, and state revenue department schedules — before it publishes. If a figure here ever conflicts with an official source, that is a bug, and it gets fixed.

Beyond payroll, Jim builds content technology: he is the creator of ClipMorph.ai, a content-creation platform, and writes about software and media at atkinsmedia.io.

Every 2026 article, the State Tax Burden Study and the calculator itself are built and reviewed under Jim's editorial oversight.

Payroll Tax Calc

Executive-grade payroll withholding precision, computed entirely in your browser.

Methodology

Federal figures use 2026 progressive brackets and standard deductions. FICA applies Social Security at 6.2% up to the $184,500 wage base and Medicare at 1.45%, plus the 0.9% Additional Medicare Tax above statutory thresholds. State results apply each state's 2026 bracket schedule after its standard deduction and personal exemptions, with county and city income taxes included where you select a locality.

Disclaimer

Payroll Tax Calc provides estimates for planning purposes only and is not tax, legal, or financial advice. Local tax coverage includes the county and city income taxes listed in the calculator; state credits are not modelled. Consult a qualified professional before making withholding decisions.
