Payroll Tax Calc
Editorial Policy
How Payroll Tax Calc sources, verifies and maintains its tax data — official government schedules only, reviewed annually, with corrections prioritized.
1. Our sources
Every figure in the calculator traces to a primary government source: IRS annual inflation adjustments (Revenue Procedures) for federal brackets and standard deductions, IRS Publication 15-T for withholding mechanics, the Social Security Administration for the wage base and COLA, and each state's department of revenue for state and local schedules (for example, Indiana's Departmental Notice #1 for county rates).
2. Review cadence
The full data set is reviewed at least annually when new-year figures are published (typically October–November for the following year), and a scheduled automated check each January flags whether the site's tables have fallen behind the current tax year. If they have, a notice appears on the site until the update ships.
3. Estimates and jurisdiction notes
Where a jurisdiction uses a graduated local schedule we cannot fully model, we use a clearly labelled typical-rate estimate rather than guessing. State results apply published bracket schedules to annualized wages after standard deductions and personal exemptions; local credits and rare municipal rules are outside the model and disclosed on the site.
4. Corrections
Verified corrections are our top editorial priority. If you spot a figure that conflicts with an official source, email support@atkinsmedia.io with the state or topic, the figure you expected, and a link to the government source. Confirmed errors are corrected as quickly as possible.
5. Independence
Our calculations and content are produced independently of advertisers and any third party. Advertising funds the site; it never shapes the math. See our Advertising Disclosure for details.
